Speaker: Alan McBee
Topic: Grokking WinRT XAML Apps

Description:

If you’re like me, you’ve toyed with the thought of making a XAML-based application for WPF, Silverlight, or Windows 8, but have been overwhelmed with a mishmash of loosely connected styles, resources, animations, binding, templates, and other parts that have little in common with traditional Windows or Web programming models (like Windows Forms or ASP.NET), not to mention trying to navigate your way through Expression Blend or the XAML designer in Visual Studio 2012.
In this session, I’ll explain in familiar terms everything you need to begin creating your first WinRT app. I’ll explain and demonstrate the essentials of the MVVM pattern, which greatly simplifies development of these apps, using the MVVMLight library and templates. I’ll also distribute a guide for how to think about and organize your application’s components. Finally, I’ll recommend books and resources that I found especially helpful to understand all of this.
