Why Use Open Id?

You may have noticed that SacDotNet  has changed the way we handle user logins and passwords. Believe it or not, using a third party to provide our authentication actually makes us more secure.

Why?

Using a third party authentication  provider like Windows Live, Google Id, Yahoo Id or OpenId allows SacDotNet to avoid saving passwords at all. When it comes time to verify your identity, we pass your username via a secure channel to an authentication provider. The service will return your login status and we use that status. You never type your password into SacDotNet and it is never shared with us.

If we ever suffer a data breach (like so many others), we do not have login credentials to have stolen.

But why am I being directed to another site?

The fact that you are being directed to another site is not as important as you're being directed to another site that you trust. Most of you will already have a Live, Gmail or Yahoo account and do not need to sign up for yet another account.

I know I am probably not explaining this very well. Please visit the link below for a better explanation.

Thank you for your patience through this transition.
